On 15th April 2010, Shelter Afrique organized a sensitization workshop, dubbed ‘Uganda Road Show’ at the Kampala Serena Hotel in Uganda.
The event which was to bring together SHELTER AFRIQUE’s potential partners and the stakeholders in housing delivery in Uganda, who included government officials, developers, contractors, consultants, financiers, cooperatives and service providers was very interactive and informative. The event was to enable us inform our prospective partners about our activities, experiences as well as chart the way forward for collaboration in housing delivery in Uganda. It was addressed by the Honorable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Managing Director of SHELTER AFRIQUE, the CEO of National Housing and Construction Company, the Director of Housing among other key speakers.
The organization reiterated its keen interest in Uganda and announced that it had set aside $20 million to support the housing sector in the country. The Managing Director said the money would provide long term funding on lending to private real estate developers and housing finance institutions in the country. He added that through such initiatives we are able to build strong nations.
Simbamanyo, Lachen, Akright and Namuwongo low-cost housing are some of the projects that have benefitted from the funding. He urged the business community to take advantage of the initiative to better the lives of the low and middle income citizens.
